Print Course Description

Length:  3 Days (24 Hours)

Designed for:  Narcotics Agents, Patrol Officers, and Crime Scene Specialists who need to document criminal activity on video. Participants should be familiar with all aspects of investigations including surveillance, search warrants, and wireless transmitters.

Description: This course will cover the use of camcorders, body-worn video systems, "Leave Behind" video systems and Long Range video systems to record drug deals, drug smuggling, drug transportation and distribution. Video evidence can help to detect, interdict, disrupt and curtail illicit trafficking which threatens our national security through the funding of terrorism. It can also be a source of intelligence information to help identify members of transnational organized criminal threats to U.S. national security interests in the Western Hemisphere.

A late start on the second class day insures participants will have an opportunity to learn about camcorder low light features and how to shoot video using night scopes and, when possible, thermal imaging.

Students will be exposed to state-of-the-art video surveillance systems and will be offered the opportunity to use them in realistic hands-on scenarios.

Upon the successful completion of this course, participants will be able to use video to document traffickers and trafficking of commodities, counterfeit products, people,  weapons of mass destruction, drugs, small arms and explosives, precursor chemicals, and illicitly-gained and laundered money.

Participants are asked to wear street clothing and to drive unmarked vehicles to class, preferably a van or pickup truck.

Course Objectives:

  • Camcorder features
  • Slow speed shutters
  • IR capable camcorders and IR light sources
  • Moving Surveillance
  • Night scopes
  • “Add-on Lenses”
